But I recused myself of judging Heather’s wonderful series.) We’re thrilled that she took the award.

“It’s the year of the female history blogger,” writes Ralph Luker at Cliopatria, “with women having won at least 4½ of the 6 awards. It’s also the first year in which one blog won two awards.” the award was announced last night here at the AHA in San Diego.

Once a month — that’s the magic number and people don’t know that. So you have to increase your weights or increase your reps or change your exercises . . . one of those two things has to happen. Or change your cardio program.”

I think Kirk Ferentz, because Iowa really doesn't have a star team, like most other top ten teams, but he still coached them to an 11-2 season. Then there's Nick Saban who won the NC, but they have mark Ingram, (and Ingram deffintelty isn't good because of Saban. He would have won the Heisman playing at New Mexico State), plus they probably only won because McCoy was hurt. I mean remember when they played Auburn? They almost lost because Ingram got hurt. Then there's Mack Brown, but once again, i think Texas can attribute there success to Colt McCoy, not to Brown (although, without McCoy they still did a very good job.) Then there's Urban Meyer, but think about it, no matter who the coach is Florida always has a good team because they always get the best players automatically. Tim Tebow, won the heismen once, and then was in the running a second time. Boise state has Kellen Moore. maybe the coach of like Cincinnati because they aren't really a team of stars, maybe even TCU. but anyway, those are just my opinions, please tell me what you think!

Not only does it allow you to eat on campus, but if you leave your dorm without the plastic I.D., then it might be a while before you get back in.

2. take advantage of the resources here.

There are plenty of outlets for study, research and playtime. There’s the Writing Center, Mac labs, Innovation Space, Bishop-Favrao Hall study lounge, WARE lab and the always-popular Math Emporium.

3. Learn a little bit about the history of Virginia Tech.

It makes being a student here much more enjoyable when you take pride in your university. For example, know what the eight pylons at the War Memorial are. It’s a major part of what defines the school.

4. A rain coat, rain boots and waterproofing spray are fundamental.

The spray protects items such as backpacks and purses from water damage. Also, if you can’t stand the thought of wearing rain boots, then be sure to waterproof your shoes before the weather gets the best of them.

Simple enough, right? This thunderous chant really gets the blood flowing for the players and the fans and can often be heard across Blacksburg. As head coach Frank Beamer once said, “we provide the play, but the fans provide the atmosphere.”

7. if the song “Enter Sandman” by Metallica doesn’t give you the chills, then you should probably just transfer to UVa.

The song is played at the beginning of every home game, along with a JumboTron video montage, when the football team enters the stadium. Get on your feet, and be ready to jump.

Boise State, Kellen Moore Keep BCS Championship Dreams Alive

When the AP polls were released and Boise State was given the no. 3 ranking, many people cried for Boise State to prove that they deserved that lofty ranking.

And prove it they did.

Boise State pulled off an impressive clutch victory over no. 10 Virginia Tech. Star QB Kellen Moore led the Broncos into the endzone on a final drive with less than two minutes remaining to put Boise State up for good in the 33-30 win.

No team looked better against a quality opponent than Boise State. Mighty no. 4 Florida didn’t look half as good against Miami of Ohio.

Many quarterbacks have received preseason Heisman hype, including Jake Locker of Washington and Christian Ponder. Kellen Moore looked head and shoulders better than any other QB. after week one, he has gained the lead in the Heisman race.

No one can question whether or not Boise State belongs among the college football elite. They’ve proved that by winning big game after big game, and racking up undefeated season after undefeated season.

This win places Boise State firmly ahead of any other non-AQ teams for a spot in a BCS bowl game, including fellow top ten team TCU.

But, can Boise State make its way into the BCS National Championship Game and play for it all?

Boise State’s only other non-conference threat is against Oregon State, which just suffered a disappointing loss at the hands of TCU. Then, there’s a couple of dangerous games against Fresno State and at Nevada.

But, what happens if Boise State takes care of business?

To leave this Boise State team out of the national title game if they go undefeated would be a gross injustice. Such a slight could be just enough to bring public anger to the point of dismantling the BCS. it would be in the BCS’s own interest to let Boise State play for it all to pacify the anti-BCS crowd, at least for a while.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. It’s still only game one. There’s an entire season left of college football, and a lot can happen between now and January.

Still, college football ought to be on alert for Boise State.

BOISE, Idaho — Kellen Moore is uniquely indistinguishable. He’smodest and reserved, unlikely to draw attention to himself. at 6feet tall and 186 pounds, he hardly looks the part of a footballhero.

Yet much like the Boise State team he leads, Moore is so muchmore than the sum of his parts, an undersized and overlookedsmall-town kid who has turned out to be Heisman Trophycontender.

‘He’s a very calm person who does his homework, so when he getsinto tough situations he goes back to his basics and keeps itsimple,” said his brother Kirby, a sophomore receiver for thethird-ranked Broncos.

In two years as Boise State’s starting quarterback, Kellen Moorehas thrown for more than 7,000 yards and 64 touchdowns with just 13interceptions. Last year, his 39 touchdowns to three interceptionswas the best ratio in NCAA history. he was a third-team APAll-American.

Maybe the most impressive number Moore has racked up is this:26-1. That’s Boise State’s record with Moore heading into Mondaynight’s monumental opener against No. 10 Virginia Tech at FedExField in Landover, Md.

‘Sometimes it feels like it’s gone for ever. other days it seemsfast,” Moore said. ‘you’re watching tape and see a clip and it’stwo years ago and it feels like yesterday. other times you think’I've been here a while,’ especially when you see thefreshmen.”

It was back when Moore was a redshirting freshman, three yearsago, that he started displaying the attributes that have made himmaybe the most successful QB in Boise State history.

Offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin, the coach who fought to giveMoore a scholarship when Idaho and Eastern Washington were his onlyother suitors, said Moore’s performances during scrimmages thatredshirt year convinced him the Broncos had unearthed a gem.

Harsin knew Moore’s background — son of a coach, played in apass-based offense in high school — gave the kid the footballsmarts needed to do the job.

But in his first few weeks on campus, during basic drills, Moorenever stood out. it wasn’t until Harsin threw Moore into a gamesetting, that the lackluster drills were forgotten.

‘His freshman year we put him in a scrimmage and you see that’swhere he really shines is in that game environment and being inthat situation,” Harsin said.

For coach Chris Petersen, where Moore set himself apart was thefilm room, during hours of study. even when it was certain Moorewas never going to play, Petersen noticed he was paying the mostattention.

‘Here is this redshirt and he is engaged and maybe more engagedthan some of the guys who are playing,” Petersen recalled. ‘Justthe focus he would bring to the meetings and when you do that dayafter day after day you start to really reap the benefits.

‘That’s a very simple concept that most can’t do day after day,stay engaged for a full hour in a meeting, totally engaged, but hecould.”

For teammate Austin Pettis, it’s Moore’s knack for knowing whatthe receivers are about to do, even if a route is altered in themiddle of a play, that makes the quarterback special.

‘He just knows what the defense is doing at all times and itseems like he knows what you’re doing at all times,” Pettis said.’If the DB does something to you and you have to change your route,he knows what you’re doing. it makes you’re job a lot easier.”

The numbers Moore has posted in his two seasons — andespecially last year — are almost impossible to match. Harsinpoints out the Broncos never ask Moore to carry the offense, to bea star. Moore’s lone task is to make the right decisions, Harsinsaid.

If he does that, the numbers come.

‘He just needs to continue to do his job and he gets that. Andthat is the reason he is our quarterback,” Harsin said. ‘He did hisjob he made the right decisions and we saw that when he was young.That’s why he is out there.”

Moore will need to avoid any major mistakes if the Broncos runat a national title is to even get started against Virginia Tech.the Hokies surrendered 15 points per game last season and 167 yardspassing per game. Duke was the only team to throw for more than 250yards against the Hokies’ defense.

That’s fine to Moore. he believes the manner in which theBroncos beat TCU 17-10 in the Fiesta Bowl proved the Broncos don’tneed to throw for huge yards or score bundles of points to defeattough opponents.

‘I think it shows resiliency. it wasn’t a great performance,”Moore said. ‘It’s one of those you keep going, you keep going andeventually when the opportunities come, fourth quarter, you’re ableto make some plays.”
